MSThemeCompatible" content="No" - what are the benefits??????

can someone explain the reasons and benefits behind using this meta tag:

<meta http-equiv="MSThemeCompatible" content="No" />

apart from the fact it buggers up all your checkboxes and radio buttons...

I know what it does, I just want to know why it should be used, and what exactly it affects.. google has been decidedly unhelpfull...

Never used it myself, but it's to allow/stop windows styling certain page elements - in IE only I think. So it should only be screwing with your form elements if it's set to yes.

When running on Windows XP, Internet Explorer 6 and the content displayed in it sports a look and feel that matches the Windows XP platform. You can opt to have your HTML content not take on the same look as the operating system for elements such as buttons and scroll bars, by adding the following META tag:

<META HTTP-EQUIV="MSThemeCompatible" Content="No">

The following discussion divides developer information into two parts. The first part is targeted more toward programmers and applications developers; the second part deals with topics of greater interest to page designers.

not much help though is it.. so far I can tell that having it turned off by using the above meta tag unstyles my checkboxes, but what else does it affect - it doesnt seem to affect styled scrollbars, and I can't think of anything else?

that's my solution - my programmer however is arguing for it, cos.. well, because he doesn't like microsoft I just need a good reason that it's of no practical use for us
