How many of designers are care for W3C web standards? Are you?

I wondering how many of designers are really care for W3C web standards? Are you the one? Why do you think it is important?

They kill me.

W3C would have more credibility with its demands if it did anything at all about the IE problem. It's one thing to dictate what html and css should look like, quite another to try to actually get it to reproduce the way it should.

As far as I know, the W3C is a group of people who volunteer, and dont really have any power to change things, they can only recommend.

I wish they had power to deal with the IE problem but I think they are a long way from being able to even try

But surely the W3C as an organisation has some clobber, whether or not its populated by volunteers.

I guess they do, else we wouldn't all follow their guidelines, but could that be 'cos they are the only one of their kind? I dunno - maybe someone else knows more...

It's not quite a cosy cabal of techno-hippies. There are some f/t, paid roles within the W3C.

W3C members represent some of the largest technology-based companies on the planet, including Microsoft.

And another thing - how come they're up to W3 already when the rest of us are still struggling with 2.0?

When I say "us", I mean you. I'm still on Web 0.1 and that's still in Beta.
