GoDaddy vs. VWD

I am contemplating buying a few domains on godaddy.com and believe it is the best option for hosting. Currently I am using the free visual web developer version to create my sites, but I do have access to Dreamweaver if this would be simpler. My question lies in if godaddy is the best source for this and if this would be a smooth transition? I have seen a number of arguments of how difficult it is to transfer databases but I was questioning the credibility of these arguments. If anyone has some insight I would truly appreciate it.

Thanks

From my own experience of using GoDaddy as a domain registrar for many years, they've never put a foot wrong and I have complete faith that their flawless domain registration service will continue.
(Some find their registration process a little too littered with adverts and offers, but you can skim passed them pretty quickly.)

I've seen questions raised about their competence when it comes to hosting.
You might expect some level of disappointment and fuckups for all large companies, but I've not heard or seen any significant amount of criticism of their domain registration services. This makes me think that there might be some issues with their hosting services by comparison.

I'm personally of the view that it's prudent to keep domain registration and hosting with separate companies. Not putting all ones eggs in one basket, so to speak.
So, I register and renew all my domains through GoDaddy, but host with a different (UK-based) hosting company.

So far, this approach has worked perfectly for me.

Couldn't have put it better myself. You pretty much made every point I would have.

Thanks a lot for all of your input. If anyone has anything else to add before I go into this process I would appreciate it. I'm developing a graphic design portfolio so, needless to say, I have a little bit of time to play around with some ideas.

I've used Godaddy for domain registration and hosting for the past 2 years and I don't have any complaints.

It seems that the proper thing to do would be to go with godaddy for my domain name and then another hosting site, such as In Motion or Network Solutions. Thanks for this, it was eye opening. To address the other part of my question, do you think there would be problems with the free version of VWD transferring files to say, In Motion? Or would I need to transfer the VWD templates into Dreamweaver first for a smooth transfer?

Personally I wouldn't use Network Solutions. You shouldn't have too many problems moving the site. Look for a hosting provider that has a decent server management tool such as cPanel.

If you want a personal recommendation, I would try these guys: PriorityColo.com

I've used them for a couple of years now, and have found them to be excellent (in the past I've probably used about a dozen different hosting companies in both a personal and professional capacity over the years).
