Length of each menu item

Ok, my client told me to add way too long menu item, for instance "moral standard, ethical perspective, race, and religion", under one of the drop down menu. The reason they want to do that is that each subject doesn't have enough content, so they want to put in one.

I think "moral standard, ethical perspective, race, and religion" is way too long for name of menu items. Are there any good logical reasons to explain why it shouldn't be that long, beside "this is too long for menu item"? or are there any web usability articles about it, if so please provide me links.

Thanks, guys

"It's too long." is the correct answer. They're insane if they don't understand that.

Why not change it to "Issues" or something? Or, better yet, provide a second drop-down level.

Code:
Issues -> Moral Standard -> Ethical Perspective -> Race -> Religion
Then have each link to an anchor on the same page?

using an anchor is good idea, so all short content can be still in one page, but it'll jump to the right place...

Thanks!

I'd say rename it to Miscellaneous with a mouse rollover that shows the entire phrase.

Or you can have it as 4 menu items (or sub menu) that link to the same page but different anchor points. It will then auto scroll to the content.

Realistically, each page should have it's own specific purpose. I've made one site in the past with 40-50 pages, with one page called Miscellaneous, just to include all the short information.

Edit: My bad, that was weird, when I saw the post minutes ago, I didn't see any replies.

I would personally not want to integrate any ambiguous phrase in the navigation ie. miscellaneous.

Using anchors is probably the best way to do this as mentioned by sand007 IMO
