should a b2b site be designed w/ the same "standards" as a b2c site?
i am about to start the design of a strict b2b site with a well defined, and small (about 100 or so) user base. i have also become a strong adherent of designs based on web standards, accessible, valid xhtml, etc. i am burning to get the money to buy jakob neilsens research on b2b sites, but i can't seem to convince my boss to spend the 200 bucks it will cost. which is completely absurd to me, since it would seem this information could lead to a much more effective site and better user experience. since there seem to be such strict rules for giving a b2b user a certain "experience", certain things they expect, does anyone know if the strict parameters of a b2b site can be achieved using a fully valid, accessible, web standards based design (since i can't read jakob's pdf)? thanks... jakob neilsen - you can have any colour, as long as it's 50% grey. in my experience business users tend to expect everything to work half-assed in IE, and take ages to load; where else would they find the time to talk about who fucked the bicycle in admin? meh.
