I'm looking for a way to track a link, so that the web analytics tell you where a visitor comes from.

I'm setting up an email newsletter for a company. They want to be able to see how many visitors went to their website by clicking on the link in their newsletter. They need to find this information in Google Analytics.

I think it should be pretty simple to do, I've just never done it before. All I need, is to be able to see how many visitors came from the email that is being sent out.

Give them the google analytics logins? Or prepare some kind of html report from it?

Find the IP of the site and log that

In answer to the question, just use Campaign Monitor. It does that for you.

If the website supports PHP , try hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Web_Traffic_Analysis/index.html
I'm sure you can find one that uses javascript, html to track.
