Web Standards in DANGER!

In the last hour, I´ve found two articles that really have left me very worried. First, I´ll put the links:

3w.andybudd.com/archives/2007/05/css22/index.php

3w.456bereastreet.com/archive/200705/help_keep_accessibility_and_semantics_in_html/

I think the entire community MUST do something to stop this mess. It´ll end very bad. Microsoft now has their own tools, so they´ll start to simply don´t care about standards. And now we have XHTML2 and HTML5. WAF!!! We are dividing in groups! Instead of recruiting new standards lovers, we´re dividing! I think this is absourd, and a very stupid move.

Please, spread the voice, we have to do something!

Goodbye. Sorry for my bad english, I´m argentinean

Ok, actually we dont have xhtml2 and html5. Both of these are recommendations or drafts. They are not recognised standards yet. And if you look at them, both have their pros and cons. We can only hope that the logical thing will happen, and that they will get their heads together eventually and merge these two proposed standards.

As for the w3c, and the development of css3, its true that it is taking a very long time, but to be honest, is that really such a bad thing? I for one would rather wait... Make sure they get it right as opposed to getting it done quickly. For now, I'm happy to work with css2 - Again, at least we know it works (mostly!)

I agree that css2 is very good, but it could be better. I´m not saying that w3c should launch css3 now, but as andy budd says, they could launch something like css 2.2, with some features that we really need to make our jobs faster and easier (border-radious!).

2.2 would make more of a mess than waiting.

Yes, css2 could be better... But really, is there anything that we really cant achieve with it if we try / look / search / beg? The point here is that it works... And slowly but surely browsers are beginning to support the draft proposals for some of the bigger features in css3 anyway... A "point" release of css2 wouldn't solve any real problems... It would just add more stuff in for people to get confused with. Better to wait until the whole thing is completed.

The two specifications are so far apart in both goals and implementations that I can't see that happening

And besides, what do we have now, HTML 4 Trans, HTML 4 Strict, XHTML 1 Trans, XHTML 1 Strict, XHTML 1.1, and then the frameset DOCTYPEs. Not to mention the earlier versions of HTML and the non-standard HTML still floating around out there.

Is two more really going to bring the web to a screeching halt? Doubt it.

Yes, and, is it really that important to have xhtml 1.0 strict instead of html 4? I mean, this way developers get more choice, to choose what's best/works best..

I accept it... Standars never do in any Internet Browser or HTML editors. For example the margin of Input(as Radio type) in IE is more than that in Firefox.

Standards begin with good English.

BLAKE : There is only one thing we can do, we must go and strike at the heart of the Federation, somewhere where it will hurt them. Up to now our efforts to bring about their downfall has been gallant but ineffective, yes we have made a name for ourselves and more people are joining the cause, but it is not enough.

Look what happened on Planet Mozilla and FireFox for example, the Federation, simply let the people develop their technologies, assured that there would be no interference and that the Federation would even assist in their growth and development, however once they had reached a certain point the Federation moved right in and stripped them of every useful technology and resource they had. Cant you see? This is happening all over the Galaxy, no the only way we can stop this is to strike where it will hurt them, but where…

[long pause]
I HAVE IT!! Avon, how about we get ORAC to write a virus that will wipe out every Windows OS going, forcing everyone to use LINUX .

Avon : There is one flaw with that plan… Zen.

Blake : What has Zen got to do with it..

Avon : Zen is a computer with limited artificial intelligence, like all creatures with low intelligence they make stupid mistakes, Zens mistake was to fall for the Federations own propaganda….

Blake : What No you cant mean….

Avon : Yes… Zen reprogrammed himself to run Vista and refuses to uninstall it.

Blake : BUGGER

Avon : Yes, bugger indeed.

It's all a bunk of wank or to be forum friendly ''.

Why not just call it CSS? and when you add a new feature just notify people.
