What does the WC3 really do?
Honestly, and I'm not ranting here... but what does the WC3 really do? I mean ok, yes they helped usher in some new technologies and streamline some standards but, the major issue to me is that there are at least 50 different web browsers (if not more) that seem to have their own standards. It would be great if the WC3 had the power or influence to enforce these standards upon web browser developers. Then we (designers) wouldn't have to spend some much time testing on all of these browsers. I might be wrong by saying this but, it's quite an ordeal doing so much testing. If anyone knows the deal let me know. note: admin & moderators, please, please understand I'm not ranting, but it truly is a genuine question |

As far as I see it, they propose a set of standards for technologies, and encourage the browser developers too create their browsers to follow them. They then act as a middle man between the browser developers, and the website developers, to help things work. Since Internet Explorer has lost microsoft more money through law suits than it has sold copies of windows, it is no wonder they couldn't give a fuck about making a browser that works. Testing certainly isn't as bad as it used to be before W3C came along, jesus I remember people making either having to make two sites, or exclude one browser. (IE vs Netscape) |

I guess your right, it is better than it use to be, but I think we are far away from it being easy. I just thought since we're in 2007 we could at least jump this one little hurdle, I mean we did put a man on the moon (right?) Thanks for the response and insight on the role of the WC3. |

Yeah, giving that kind of power to one organisation is not a good idea. |

I agree, but there has to be some sort of structure to the web, besides semantics. With a proper structure things become more efficient and reliable (example: if it looks good and functions on one browser it looks good on all). Thanks for your input though. |
