password protected page

I need to make a members only page, and have made a page for user-ID and password. But it is so simple that anyone with minimum html-knowledge will be able to see the password in the code, and it is possible to get straight to the members page by putting member.html after domain name.
How do I hide user-ID and password in the script? (I have never used database, but maybe the clue is to hide them in a DB?), how do I hide the address of the members page? Will I have to use CGI or PHP? I am not familiar with this.
Any suggestion will be highly appreciated. I use dreamweaver, by the way. Thanks.

Oops. Looks like I should have been in the Help Me-department.

if you need simple authentication, and do not require advanced options, use HTTP authentication. You can find some examples on Zend's website.
