doing a handheld stylesheet for this site:

And of course it's all gone a bit wrong - Testing it on the small screen rendering /Style sheets selector facilities in firefox and opera, I get the results I'm after. However I tested it on a bunch of different PDA's and mobile devices (pocket PC, various Symbian OS's etc.) and none of them seem to be taking a blind bit of notice of the handheld stylesheet.

Is it because I linked to the stylesheet rather than importing it? I thought Linking was supposed to catch more devices..

This is the first time I've dealt with a handheld specific stylesheet, so maybe it's something blatantly obvious I'm missing.. ?

On a bit of a tight deadline with this, so any knowledge would be gratefully recieved.

Sigh.

a lot of handhelds refer to themselves as screen rather than a handheld device

Aye, told the client that if the device doesn't recognise handheld stylesheets, then it isn't covered.

Just got some success on the second browser on my phone by using @import and link together, but I don't have access to PDA's untill tonight - would anyone be so kind as to look up

on thier phone browser (or pda if you've got one), and tell me if the results are anything at all like the atattched image?

What about a different url? mob.domain.com? Or adding it dynamically via browser string in php/whatever

That's a whole other job... The agreement on this was to get it working in any device that recognises the handheld media type. Going to stick some JS in there to detect a resolution of under 640x480, but most handhelds don't have JavaScript enabled anyway.

Fucking minefield....

no-one else got a browser on thier phone? Go on, gis' a hand, and have a quick butchers

That's cool, Had a someone check it on a variety of devices and it seems fine on most of them apart from pocket PC which seems to think it's a screen rather than a handheld, even though it doesn't render correctly. Nowt I can do about that I guess.
