The flash file is dragging the news items from the xml file.
like this <newsitem>News text goes here</newsitem>

Thought i'd solved it!!

Recreated the screensaver with the xml news ticker in it and tested it on my mac as an swf file. the £ sign shows up.

when i take it to a pc, create the screensaver from the same swf file and the xml file is referenced from the server it doesnt work, well it sort of works. i get

£

thats when its written normally " <newsitem>£This is an xml reader</newsitem>

ive tried the £ in its place but that doesnt work.

anyone any suggestions?

What encoding are you using? ISO or UTF-8? Try switching your encoding around maybe if asariyski's ASCII code doesn't work.
