How IE chooses which font-family to use?

I used font-family for a page as "Fantasy". When I tried opening this page on my HOME PC, it looks good to me even though I have seen in fonts (listed in Internet Explorer Options), this font is not there.

When I open same page on my OFFICE PC, it displays it differently. And somewhere else differently.

Can anybody put some light on this topic ? How IE chooses which font to use if font you specified is not available? How you can check on your PC, what all fonts are installed by default by windows ?

You might find this interesting if you really want custom fonts for headers:

I personally think its not worth the effort though.

Google it - "microsoft office fonts" - those are going to cover much of the population.

You're relatively safe with things like Times, Georgia, Tahoma, Verdana, Arial.

Thanks for all replies.

Can anybody answer why I have different fonts on two different PC's even if both have same Widnows XP version? I have not installed any font on my own on both of PC's.
