Talent is more important than experience though. (fortunately my clients think I've got both). I know of designers that have been designing Web sites longer than me that are absolute wank and I know of designers that have been designing Web sites 1/3 the time of me that are fantastic. Have you actually got any talent Rakan? |

Science? should I wear safety goggles, maybe invest in a bunsen burner. print designers don't know how to strip a four plate press and oil it's rolling axles, web designers don't need to know how to programme, surely thats why we have programmers - as for psyhcology and marketing how about we leave that to the psychologists and marketing proffesionals. To me sounds like your describing a jack of all trades which runs the risk of being master of none |

Apparently many people here would rather make judgements than try and understand my point... My point is this, there is a lot more to web design than learning to use the shadow effect on Photoshop and putting the image on FrontPage... I was merely expressing that it pisses me off when I see people that fit that description sit with me saying "hey, I'm a web designer." Maybe he/she DOES web design, but my point was that it takes a lot more to consider yourself an actual designer. If no one agrees with me that's fine, I guess there's a lot more shadow effect designers out there than I thought. And I agree with d*d about the jack of all trades.... It can lead to being master of none. But if you've ever worked on a web design team, you'd know that it takes at least SOME understanding of each to make things more efficient. You can't overcomplicate a useless design that a programmer has to lace code into without knowing a bit about how it works. Ever try creating a themed, database-driven website without knowing how a programmer would turn your design into an actually usable design?? Marketing is also something a designer should know a tiny bit about at the least... How can you design an effective website for a psychotherapist and use black as the base color?? Pcyshology - black reflects depression and misery... not something a psychotherapist wants to invite his clients to... There has to be SOME knowledge about different areas. Don't tell me that as a web designer you know nothing about graphic design... otherwise you'd just be a layout designer or a programmer.... To be quite honest, only a couple of you actually seem mature enough... the rest just want to pull each other's hair and give each other wedgies. Grow up. |

I'd be interested to see what kinda of sites you produce. I think we are all aware of whats involved in web design, hence a lot of joshing in replies. Your profile says and I qoute.." WeB DeSiGN, WeB DeSiGN, WeB DeSiGN, WeB DeSiGN, WeB DeSiGN, WeB DeSiGN, WeB DeSiGN, WeB DeSiGN, WeB DeSiGN, WeB DeSiGN, WeB DeSiGN" yet you don't share the fruits of your apparent love for it. be alittle more open and less condescending in your posts and people may respond a little differently. regards |
