Pricing

Just wondering if anyone would like to share their pricing with me, I work freelance and am caught in the dilemma of whether to lower my prices to get more work. Typical costs are £1000 for a static site and up to £3000 for e-commerce, dynamic sites.

basically, figure out what the absolute minimum you need to do the project, then add on top what you think the client is willing to pay.

A friend of mine is charging something like 22k for a non dynamic site that will take about a week and a half (for a big advertising agency though that tends to throw money about) - on the flipside they are also doing projects that take just as long for about 800 quid.

we're doing a site now for about 5k when we should really be charging 12k or thereabouts, but we know it will lead to more work. It's swings and roundabouts really ...

blimey, the most I have ever got for a site is £1,500.
That is freelance though, Id love to work for an agency but just dont seem to get the jobs so I end up working as a companies only designer.
Maybe with another years experience ...

oli mate, just set up as a limited company so you look more legit to the client - and set your website to look like theres a few people involved - then just partner with a few other companies that do the stuff you don't do, and add a premium on to thier prices - all the sucessful design companies i know started as one or two people working out of thier living rooms - it's a combination of being able to run things cheaply and pure blag power for a while - took me almost two years to get to the point i'm at now - I still have my office at home, but I'm pitching for a huge site on monday in front of a panel of nine people - eeek! - wish me luck!

actually - just looked at your site, and it looks the part - you just have to do the rounds and get networking at things like chamber of commerce meetings etc....

Thanks for the advice Mike, I do actually have the contacts to get the work done, ie I know programmers, flash guys and If I get any large jobs I have a 10-man strong company in the phillapines who I can sub-contract any work to.
I think I need to team up with some marketers or something because I'm not brilliant at that side of things.
btw , good luck for your pitch

argh...too many people from the UK...lol

I usually charge 25$-200$, depending on how large the site is (and how rich the person buying is :P)

Is that for a full website ? That seems very cheap to me, Ive sold loads of template .PSDs for $150-$200 but they only take me a couple of hours to do so theyre a good way of getting some cash if I havent got any work on.

I always found the experience of pitching for work mental, I remeber my first pitch for a big company in Knowsley in Liverpool fuckin bricking it cos I was straight out of Uni sat in front of 3 board directors and hoping I didn't get found out.

Although I once did a pitch for Weldo and I was bricking it for other reasons then...

Not too much. Around $30/hr, but I just do it in my free time for extra money. More than my salary.

Usually give people a flat rate as opposed to hourly. Doing one right now for $1200, plus $10/month hosting.

£70 an hour for calculations. The most we have charged for a site is about £12k
