Alright, so I'm currently working on three or four templates for websites.. and I was wondering if I could get some advice on 'em. I'm quite new to web design (by most of your standards, I'm sure), and just wanted to know what you guys would suggest. Anyway, here's a few links. Ignore the copywriting in the first link, I'm going to replace it with Lorem Ipsum when I get a chance. bundyxc.com/index.html bundyxc.com/test/index.html bundyxc.com/meh/index.html The second one doesn't have anything, on it, but the body of it stretches out to hold whatever it is that can be typed in there. Oh, and I know that the first link was made entirely using tables, sorry. I liked my third link the most, but I got into a three-color rut, and it just looks boring now. By the way, here are two mockups that I'm currently working on.. i40.tinypic.com/2ij1yl4.png i44.tinypic.com/28lqkv6.png I know I'm not amazing, or perfect, but that's why I'm posting here.. for help, suggestions, and advice. Criticism is exactly what I want. Thanks for your time guys, I really appreciate it. - Christian Last edited by bundyxc : 02-07-2009 at 02:36. |

I wouldn't consider myself pro, but I know the general basics about visual appearance. You need to work on your menu first. The menu is the first thing I and others look for. It doesn't stand out at all -- so work on that. The 3rd design is A LOT better. The colors match nicely. It definitely needs work though -- i don't like the white background though. Hope this helps. PS: Your img links don't work. (The .pngs) |

Thanks. I'm glad I know what I need to work on. Menus, menus, menus. On the third design, I'm thinking of maybe switching it up, and making the container white, with the background dark gray. I don't know. I'll post it once I'm finished with that. And.. try these. These should work. i40.tinypic.com/2ij1yl4.png i44.tinypic.com/28lqkv6.png Thanks for the input! Anybody else? |

All of them are like that, or just one template? Thanks Nick! EDIT: I'm assuming you're only talking about the first template, as that's the one with the CSS inserted into the index.html, correct? What do you think of the other templates? |

They all just seem too simple, and I don't mean this in a mean way at all. I guess theyre just lacking content. Look at other sites and start getting ideas and molding other sites into something completely your own and different. Also, do some photoshop mockup tutorials, you can get a lot of design ideas from those. |

I'd recommend stepping away from these designs and just copy some work done by professionals. go to CSSelite.com – CSS Gallery ŧ Showcasing the best in CSS web design and development. or Web Creme | Web design inspiration, find some designs you like and just copy them. Don't use these as your own work but rather as an exercise. I'd also suggest getting some good books about web design. These will help you immensely. Here are some of my favorites: Books that every web designer should own | BolducPress, a web design blog |

Well, this may seem random, but myself I am a bit of a business... consultant we will say. I help others build business. Design is a hobby for me. THAT be said and the next part being incredibly intrusive... The part in English where you talk about being a beginner... ICK. For creative businesses like design soft greens and variations of orange are suggested for color - less design advice & more business advice. My new thing is doing research on color and effect... blue is typically equated to finance businesses like Chase. Okay, the design, mind you it is my hobby so you are getting more of a consumer feel. The 2nd one is easiest on the eyes and looks the "cleanest". |

I donīt know what for is the template design (blog? portfolio?) The third design is much better, so you can change: . you need to make it look more professional. .Font Size (is too big) .Too many paragraphs, doesnīt look dinamic. .Alignments . The menu at the top of the right. .Less is more, yes, but not like that, sorry, try to find some examples of web 2.0 designs You DONīT need to copy anything, ok? |
