Thumbnail previews

First an introduction. I'm new to this design forum and i'm new to web design. But i know valid xhtml/css and learning Java/PHP etc.

Anyway, question:

I have a personal project i'm working on and i want to create a site where a user can login (php) to a database and customize their page. IE: webdomain.com/sally. If you have used Google Chrome, you will see "Most Visited Sites" or whatever (I don't use it), but I'd like the user to be able to create their personal homepage with multiple homepages listed as thumbnails. I've been told from friends, maybe I should try iFrames and some other ways, but i'd like to hear your feedback.

In plain English, its just a site you log into and edit to your liking with different "widgets" i'd offer. (Clock, calendar, etc etc.) I'd like a live thumbnail of the site.

Thanks for reading/helping. DESIGN ON RAR!

Yeah, what would be the best way to get this accomplished? Language, etc?

Answer: Hard work and determination. It's probably quite a large project to get step-by-step advice here, if that is what ye seek.

Well, you can't go far wrong with PHP/MySQL for a start

Just use DIVs. Good old fashioned DIVs - and maybe find an online service that allows you to create website snapshots in image form.

Yeah, i was planning on going with DIVs. Thanks for the reply solar. I know it will be hard :P But no, i wasn't looking for step-by-step direction, that would require time from other developers and time=money. Anyway. I'll look around.

Start small.

Learn some php and see if you have what it takes to put in the time.

You are talking a pro job, as a beginner. You are a few years off being able to do what you want, even working on it full-time.
