Because I procrastinate too much

And because sometimes there genuinely is nothing to constructively criticise and sometimes people need to be told that. Sometimes people have their hands held by friends and relatives who have no eye for design and you really needed a wake up call. Perhaps mine was not the most delicate way of doing it, but it needs a total rethink, there is no particularly subtle way to say that.

Not to mention your site does not come across as a beginner in the text, you pitch yourself as offering a design service, and you're not at a professional level yet so you shouldn't really be offering a service as if you were a business.

Just get out to sites like siteInspire | Home | inspiring web design and CSS gallery and have a look at what's being created and how much you will need to up your game. Currently there really is nothing on your site worth saying "change that" because it needs more than mere refinement.

Look into your typography, colour palette etc and go from there.

I hope it helps to say that I am not promoting this site in ANY way yet I knew very well from seeing the designs that were posted that my site would be scrutinized and torn apart. Thanks for the advice; and i will be looking into the link you gave me.

It is not good. Try looking for some sites that inspire you and work towards introducing some of the elements you like. Don't blatantly copy though.

With so much large text, I would really consider using cufon or the likes to render it with javascript. it will give you much cleaner lines.

The initial page I was taken to confused me. I wasn't sure what I needed to be paying attention to. The portfolio page wasn't too bad, but you do need to look at the contrast between the background and text on the footer. Overall, it isn't horrible but there is a lot of work to be done.

One thing to definitely get rid of is the popup when someone goes to close out of your site. Popups are obnoxious and to be honest I didn't even read it.
