I like it.

I usually associate sites designed with web standards with ugliness, but this one sure aint.

Hmmmmm
How wise of you.

The foundations you lay when you build a house don't affect the way you decorate the rooms. They only provide a solid structure - it's up to you to sort out the looks.
Won't mention the increasing amounts of time and money businesses are devoting towards standards...

Zeldman - I think it's alright. Top couple of inches looks good, the rest is just a green blog. But the orange thing he had was really bad.

Yet again I don't like it. In fact I don't think I've seen a zeldman design I do like.

All a bit muted for my liking. Might be the head cold I've got a the moment though.

Pretty much what I think too.

As for VeteraN's comment, it pretty much sums up the whole problem of trying to push web standards as the way forward .. some people just don't seem to consider the benefits it brings. Nice analogy about the house by the way

imo*

only cos most the sites I have seen they have been so focused on making the site working on every browser on every res on every OS that teh site itself looks cack.

Not enough contrast in the links on the right and all a bit green.

Yeah nice analogy, i'll remember that for future use

Isnt that a good thing that it works on all platforms and browsers. Not sure it'd make the site look "cack"

Im not on about the functionality cos ofc it would be good to have it work on every platform, but for most of the sites I have seen the actual look of the site is sacrificed.

But that's the exact point I was making.

You're talking about build and development, not design. Standards and coding can affect the way it works, but the design and graphics affect the way it looks.
Paint on bricks, skin on bones, engine in a car etc etc..... analogy a-go-go.

If a site looks shit, it's because the design is shit. It'd look just as bad as a mockup in phototshop.

I was only saying that the majority of websites (that I have seen) built with web standards have been friggin ugly.

so there must be some kind of relation

But there isn't.

The people pushing coding and standards are, more often than not, crap at design. That's why.

From a design point of view its pretty uninspiring.

It also seems a bit hypocritical to bang on about accessibility and then use that green-on-green on the RHS.

I do prefer the DWWS pages, I think the designs on them is a lot more appealing than the homepage..
