Drop shadow on images

Often i encounter myself to be in limits when it comes to adding drop shadow effects to images in the website. Especially when it comes to dynamic images. For example a blog or news site. Right now I'm kind of figuring out what the best way is to make this drop shadow appear on dynamic images. So the width and height are never the same but still i wish to have those images a drop shadow.

Does someone here know an optimal way to make these drop shadows so that these are seen by all browsers?
i know you can add drop shadow in CSS but this is not widely supported by all browsers.

extra markup around the image to place multiple background images (the drop shadow) on a few sides.

<div class="shadowright"><div class="shadowbottom"><img></div></div>
