this should be in the showcase section for critique.
the textured background doesn't really go with the site and makes the content harder to read. also the font in the content needs to be larger to be more readable. i'm not much of a fan of times new roman on web pages either, change the font face to something more suitable for websites.

As already mentioned, increase font size, times new roman isnt the best font for readability.

Im not sure, but if im not mistaken, using the area tag, is not valid xhtml. Even if it is, I would consider not using that method and building your menu with a list styled with css.

Using images when not 100% necessary isnt a good idea in my opinion.

otherwise, its ok. Could be improved from a graphic point of view, but that all depends on ones skill and time. Content is more important.

It's my first real design so I will take your advice on the font and remember about the showcase section.

That chef with no face is pretty weird and the whole thing reminds me of posters that lined the walls in my cooking classes at school in the 80's.
