I don't think free web hosting really is a bad idea, as long as it's nothing important on there! I started making (can't call it designing back then) websites on tripods free hosting when i was like 9 years old, and then up until I had enough pocket money for proper hosting always swapped around trying to find the best free web hosts. If it wasn't for free web hosting i'd have never gotten into producing websites and wouldn't be starting up my own web design company 8 yrs down the line. I've learnt a hell of a lot since having a free tripod account lol. |

hmmm, very true! I remember my first .co.uk domain name being something like £40 several years go! Mind, i wouldn't recommend free hosting for anything else other than learning, my opinion now is it's awful compared to paid hosting. The speed, reliability etc are absolutely rubbish on most free hosts. |

I think in effect there's two types of free web hosting; The type that's often given by someone with a bit of free space (pure generosity) And then the type that's given away on a website, advertised as free hosting. The first is ok as I've a few friends that I let put college work or personal sites onto hosting that i've got. It's the second type that seems to be bad, where a website will advertise free web hosting, you sign up, and upload your website onto a cramped server with a busy line. |
