24.95 for a friggin 167 page ebook? no thanks. and i thought that 'how to be a rockstar freelancer' garbage from freelanceswitch was a rip off..

If you know any other resources that are this detailed + support files and a dicussion forum then that would be a great addition to the thread

Just started using EE after a huge amount of researching other CMS's. EE seems to fit my way of thinking and working a lot better than others I have tried. Its still got a learning curve, make no mistake about it, but I have confidence that it will all click into place with me, and when it does I will be very happy!

yes. boyinks own website. which is pretty much the exact same thing as the book. its even delved into chapters for easy digestion.

discussion forum? if you paid for EE then you already get free support on the official EE forums.

I have tried EE Word Press and a few others and none come close to ModX it is awsome, code your site however you want deramweaver/notepad++ ect the copy n paste the code into ModX the forums are superb too very helpfull

I must say I have been very interested in trying ModX, due to it being FREE, and I think I will give it a go when I have some time. It is supposedly very similar to Expression Engine in the way it does things, which can only be a good thing as Expression Engine is awesome.

As I said, it is similar in idea to Expression Engine, in that its easy to customise, you dont have to work your design around their templates, you inject the CMS bits into any design you choose. Hope that helps explain it.

That is of course unless I have been totally misled about how ModX works.

You were spot on, you just create chunks for links ect and off you go, I can’t recommend it highly enough, easy to use, easy to update sites, lovely!

Expressionengine-Yah, its very, very powerful but, you still need a lot of technical knowledge to make it work. Also, it needs to be Saas to make it worth while and a better Drag and Drop WYSIWYG interface. I think it is on the right track though.

As far as comparing it to Drupal or Joomla, I dont think you really can. Its more of a tool than an operating system like the open source systems. My issues with open source platforms are that you never know if and when you will get a feature or a bug fixed when you need it. I have customers who were waiting for several months because some dude in South Africa was supposed to work on something and never did. I also have clients worried about security with open source.

On the CMS front, Expressionengine is not a pure CMS but more of a Building and Managing platform like Sitemasher or other integrated solutions trying to change the paradigm. I see this as the way to go but, no one is completely there yet. I would anticipate we will see some new Web apps that provide a complete tool for Building, Managing and Optimizing sophisticated websites without programming soon enough....it just has to get easier.

CMS Sytems- The whole reason CMS systems exist is because of the way we build websites to begin with.(using several software packages that dont talk to each other) Isnt it rediculous that we invent a whole industry based on managing websites and content due to this? Ack!!!
