Shopping cart options
I have a potential client who needs some form of e-commerce for their site. I've generally tried to avoid shopping carts because they are such a hassle to implement and customize. Here are some of their requirements: Need to easily
Naturally, they are on a lmited budget...possibly under $2500 for the entire project, including the web site. Any suggestions? I just dread shopping cart stuff but would like to "get over it" and be able to take on these projects. -Jesse |

I can recommend CubeCart, it has been security audited by a third party too. If you want to get rid of the copyright legally it costs $90. There is an opensource (free!) one called OSCommerce which other people seem to like, but I don't know much about it. These are both PHP/MySQL, and work best on Linux based hosting. These are good for people that have physical items for sale, for companies that already do mail order, etc. But they aren't very good for people dealing a customised service, for that you will need to consider learning PHP/MySQL and creating a bespoke system, it sounds scary but not too bad. |

Find a developer who deals with it and partner up! As a developer I learned really quickly that I needed to have my own systems to deal with. Over the last 4-5 years I have built a small collection of typical applications that get re-used time and time again. A shopping cart, a basic content management system, a photogallery, etc, etc. Good luck, let me know if you need some help. |

Thanks, cjgraphix. I do have someone locally that I work with, but he was unable to help me in this situation. At least not for the limited budget that the client had. I talked to the client in more detail and once they realized that the project had the potential of getting pretty expensive they backed off on their specific requirements. So I think I'm all set for now. Thanks... -Jesse |
