build a webpage for the first time
hello! I've been working as a graphic designer for a few years now, but it was never web related. I would like to create a website, and I thought that the easiest way would be to buy a template from perfectory.com The problem is that I have no idea how to build a website. I'm not even sure which program should I use. Is it that easy? Do I need to know any programming? Generally I would like to create a website, both in hebrew and english. The problem with hebrew is that the text should be aligned to the right. Should that work with the templates? So if anyone has any good advise on how should I begin this project, I'd really appreciate it Thanks! Tom |

Best place to start is HTML Dog - read through the beginners tutorials. You do need to know code to do it right (if you aren't willing to learn, better hire someone who knows what they're doing), but programming is not always necessary. Your basic skills are HTML (and/or XHTML) and CSS - neither of which are programming. Software? Well, professionals don't use Dreamweaver or any WYSIWYG editor (some of us use Dreamweaver in "Code View" though). Start with Notepad (if you're on Windows). Any text editor will work. A decent free one is Notepad++ (don't let the hideous site fool you). You can write any language you want and text direction can be altered. |
