Site Builds / Customer Interviews

I am starting to do more and more site builds each day and was just wondering if you guys all have set questions to ask the customer?

I have read that some designers have set documents with the questions on and go through it from top to bottom in the call/interview, however i have watched a few people just ask random questions.

Can anyone recommend any sites with example documents/information on this (or even show us some of your own)

Cheers

1) do you have an idea of what you would like ?

2) do you have a budget set aside for this ?

3) is this negotiable ?

4) are you having a laugh ?

5) no, YOU fuck off

works for me !!

if you look at designer websites (studios mainly) they usually have forms to fill out so you can get ideas of what to ask.

it all depends on how you work and the type of projects you are looking for.

generally you would want to know:

1. what they are asking you to do (just a brochure type site, an eshop etc..), main objective / reason for the site, target audience

2. their budget and if they are flexible on it

3. deadline required or wanted

4. possibly, preference of colors, fonts they would like, then of course if its really bad taste, you should give your designer opinion on the matter

Weldo's post made me laugh. I recognized myself there.

Wherever possible, never accept a job where there is a woman making decisions on the customer side. They never know what they want, and if they know on Thursday it'll be different by Monday. She'll cajaole and insinuate her way to seeing fifteen different versions and then reject your bill for the time you've spent by saying you did so much incompetent work she really can't accept it.

Vive la différence!

A few examples:

Get A Free Quote for your Website - Media Eye Studios Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Web Design Price Quote

Lynchburg Virginia Web Design

my own site:
Benshu.ch // Services > Webdesign, Redesign > Get a Quote

of course, just google stuff like "web design free quote" to find more references. But the general idea is already mentioned, then its up to you to personalize it or ask for specific information you may need or find useful.
