Stripes for backgrounds sure are nice, but u don't have to use then everywhere! First of all, put content in the layout, only then u can see if your design is working. Second, don't use all the cool effect from other sites. Be minimal in the beginning, focus on content which u are representing. If you do layouts just for fun, chose web page u think that needs redesigning and use their content. Maybe u think that designing means making cool layouts, but the main goal is to represent content in the best way. Those two examples u publish are crappy. U haven't define style, colors seem to be random - I think that u was just coping other sites, but u weren't successful. Hope u don't resent, we were all rookies and we all went through phase of learning. |

thanks for the words, however i came up with both of the designs myself the only thing i used from another website was the stippy lines effect on the background, and which effects are you referrering to? The graidents on text ect? or the rollover navigation. Thanks again |

I'm not saying that you took something directly from other sites. U maybe like something (obvious stripes ...) and that u included it in your sites. I'm not saying that u can't check other sites and maybe gather some ideas, but use those effects only when needed. Main problem (other than colors, shapes, ugly effects ...) is ur grid. U should put elements in some order. Look at your grid right now: etelje.com/datoteke/dt_help_lines.jpg See how many vertical lines I put there? Go around the web, look at good designs - and ASK YOURSELF why is that. Last edited by izisilver : 01-06-2007 at 06:04. |

Um dont try and do massively advanced stuff when you not familiar with tools and when you not familiar with design, as my teacher always taught me , learn by imitation, he also taught me to use tables, so from then i didnt listen to my teacher. www.procodes.net/bluecodes this is my latest design it is simple(1 image only the rest is just html(which is very messy in the css/ I have to fix it then it will be free for any one to use) oh dang i seem to have gotten an extra div tag, that wasnt happening at home, hmm 1 tic, i thought i did add an extra one in earlyer. hmm |

You and me both. I think he meant grid. He's telling you that the elements on your page don't line up well, so you need to work on a simpler grid. |

I'm sorry for the wrong word, but Firefox's spell checker was ot with it On site point there is a very good article about principles of web design: sitepoint.com/article/principles-beautiful-web-design/ On third page there is a section about grids too: sitepoint.com/article/principles-beautiful-web-design/3 I think thats enough for now |
