Shopping cart suggestions/ alternatives?

Ok. so ive designed my website.

www4.webng.com/cookmymongoose/FINAL/home.html
(ok, so that doesnt quite render right in firefox, but have fixed this issue up.)

Now all i need to do is seemlessly incorporate a shopping cart.

or so i thought. After a bit of searching, it looks like the only way to do this is to go through the lengthy process of modifying a template for a cart to exactly replicate the layout of the website. This sounds incredibly frustrating.

Anyone have any alternative suggestions? perhaps different ways people could purachase shirts online? Or recomendations of particular cart applications (preferably free ? Im hosting with dream host and they provide Zencart, is this suitable?

Sorry, bit of a newbie, Cheers

Ok this is one solution its very lightweight and it will fit into your current site. I used it once for a project and it worked fine. You are better of reading the info on the site as it tells you everything. You can get a free account and all you do is add by buttons on your site that links to the account you set up. Its very secure.

Hi Will - hey another aussie user yay.
Steer clear of oscommerce, haven't used zen cart but it should be easy enough to integrate. Its a nice site by the way

I use virtuemart.org for all my shopping cart systems. Easy to implement and open source.

Actually, im from New Zealand originally, dont hold it against me. lol

os commerce was one option i was looking at, but thankfully Lmclaney's suggestion of Mal's e-commerce seems to be exactly what i was looking for. Cheers.

Cheers for the positive feedback guys, one problem, is it just me or is the way i have integrated the cart a complete and utter eyesore?

cookmymongoose.com/mtee.html

Another problem, (they keep coming) my css is a little on the shabby side, and im sure there is an incredibly easy fix, but on the range page, these lovely purple borders appear around the images i have linked to the various items, any way to get rid of these?

cheers

Steer clear of oscommerce

Why don't you like oscommerce? I think its a good all-round shop solution. Easy enough to customize, plenty of options and add-on modules. And because its so widely used, has a good support forum.

I run 4 online shops, all of them oscommerce, and all of them problem free. Administration is simple, processing orders is easy, and what I do like is the function the user has to select any currency. Oscommerce will instantly look up the current exchange rate from oanda and convert all of your prices.

Because oscommerce runs on a mysql database, backing up (and restoring from backup) is a piece of cake.

Just my humble opinion, but you could do a lot worse than oscommerce, and of course its free.

I have also used Zen cart and it is good too. Similar to oscommerce in some respects, though not as widely used.

IMAGE BORDER:
you need to create a css for img - might as well make it global. Something like

img a {border: no-border;}
img a:hover {border: no-border;}

OSC

The problem with osc is that they haven't separated the design elements or the modular environment properly. Its a pain to try an modify anything and if theres ever an update your liable to have to go through and re-do alot of your changes.
OSC is still great if you want the same standard design, its certainly smooth running.

i agreee went through many carts found osc the best, its piss easy to create layouts on it using the simple template system addon the only issue is the SEO of it.

Just noticed your order page says:

"Sorry, Online orders are curently available, please check back soon!"

You might want to change that to UNavailable.

Just to let you know incase you over-looked that.

Best,

Jim
