organizing inspiration
How do you organize, catalog, etc. ya web design inspirations? I have a whole bunch of web screenshots from the past few years and I'm tryna figure out how to efficiently utilize them by organizing/cataloging them instead of just browsing them using File Explorer & Windows Picture and Fax Viewer (or Finder & Preview w/ drawer enabled in Mac OS X) |

Well, how do you think? What do you like about each design? Personally, I just group everything into a mental category "admirable" and try to remember and learn from them. You could start by thinking about the attributes on web pages in general. They're all visual, unless you want to include sound effects too (feel free!) So categories might be "Structure" - layouts, proportions etc. "Lettering" for sites which are really easy to read with smart typography. "Color" for pages where everything is co-ordinated and matches, tying the whole thing together - or distinguishing different subject matter from each other. But only you know what you admire about the pages you like, so you'll have to invent your own categories and maybe subdivide those too. But the more subdivisions you create, the more difficult it will be to find what you're looking for. Of course, it is permissible to put the same site into more than one category! It's your system, so do what works for you. Let us know what you come up with and show us some of the sites you like and tell us why. Mr Kurm - you should be renamed Herr Cur! Painful hangover? |

that seems to be the right way to do it, but I don't think I'm there yet, as a designer, where I can make those distinctions (I'm still learning this whole inspiration thing). plus going through two years of shots (3500+) is scary. is there maybe quik & dirty way of doing this (maybe organizing by date for mean time)? |
