Which CMS for development ?
Hi I just started a web design agency. I am curious, do most agencies/freelancers using CMS like (joomla, wordpress) or code their own cms for their needs ? For a simple website with a blog what CMS suits best ? Thnx |

Actually I'm interested in one part of the original poster's question: the thread oli linked to is about which cms is better, but as someone who has so far just coded my own (rudimentary) cms for each site, I'd be interested to find out who uses their own and who uses other, proprietory systems. In other words, I suppose, how complex does a site have to be before you stop using a backend you've coded yourself and start using e.g. joomla or whatever? |

Thats a massive grey area. Its all going to depend upon the skill of the programmer working on the site (and the custom in-house CMS you already have), and the availability of opensource solutions that meet the clients requirements. There is no answer, you have to judge it on a case by case basis, weighing up the time it will take you to hand-code a bespoke solution, or edit an existing system. unconsolidated isoparms

it's almost like asking, which car is best... compare the specs thru google search.. see what benefits your project best. how flexible it's to adjust and what the maintenance cost are. Cheers, M. |
