New Personal/Blog Site

I have been running a blog through a site of mine, but I want to separate my blog from a Prepress and Print related site that I currently have. Just want to make a separation.

I coded it in CSS but I haven't validated the CSS and HTML because I haven't had it up on a server.

If you could take a look at it and let me know what you think about the over all layout I would appreciate it.

Thanks

I really hope you wont be linking to full size images and shrinking them down in the code for the proper one like that.

Flickr, I thought that the blue looks a lot like here. As for shrinking down full size images; no, that was just done for visualization. All that would be backed up by a nice photo database.

I thought of a preloader, but I thought that wouldn't be the greatest idea either. Just set up a nice action script in Automator and have it save out 3 different sized images.

Any beefs about code or layout?

RR, there's no copyright on blue ffs.

layout looks ok if not a little narrow/crammed. i'd justify the main image (or have a bg box justified and centre the image in that) with the rest of the left side.

took about 2 hours to load with those images on my 10 meg bb.

*edit: purple option looks horrid.

Thanks for the input. Sorry about the images taking for ever to load. They won't be this big when I actually launch the site. When I starting building it, I had not found DT yet.

Coincident or conspiracy?!

It's alright, I definately would NOT add a preloader or anything of the sort. (especially since it isn't a flash site). Also, here are some of your download times:

Download Times*

Connection Rate Download Time
14.4K 5878.70 seconds
28.8K 2939.75 seconds
33.6K 2519.90 seconds
56K 1512.26 seconds
ISDN 128K 463.68 seconds
T1 1.44Mbps 40.98 seconds

Why are they so long, you ask? The Image file is HUGE.

I noticed one last thing (in Safari but may be in other browsers too). The box right before "Blog" doesn't align with the text, like the "Portfolio" box does.

Overall, good work.

its an ok layout, but try to add some more graphic elements into it, its a bit bland, and just masses of text... and that slowly loading mammoth of an image...

I kind of like it, but it does seem a bit cramped. You might want to spread it out a little.

It loads in ~10 seconds on my personal, at home line.

Go 5mbps on FiOs.

Thanks for all the input. A few thing I want to say though.

Yes the image downloads really slow...even at my office. I know that it is really big, but it was the only that I could get my hands on at the time I was building this. It will be a much much smaller image when I launch.

I don't want a whole lot of graphics. I want to keep it minimalistic without a lot of graphics.

But thanks for all the input.

Ok, i cant see ANYONE reading your blog if you make it like that. You want the text to span about 33ems, that looks to be about 15em. Also, please use Ipsum
filler instead of what you did. Also, why do you have past photos of the week? Are you a web designer? a car manufactor? or a photographer. I really cant tell by your webpage!

I was looking for the "Ipsum" filler in Dreamweaver, but couldn't find it.

This is just the index page, nothing else.

I'll get to work and see if I can't get some of the rest of the site developed. Probably going to have to reformat my windows machine.
