Yes, it's that time again! Time to redo our (Tutorial-Index.com) layout and give you something more sleek, and beautiful. Better yet, you get to choose it(!) but, you we do have a couple of preferences of our own that you need to keep in mind. Preferences for making a layout: 1.The layout must be 2-3 columns. 2.We don't want anything too colorful but we would like colors that stand out and are effective. Also, if you can, please limit the colors to the kind we have on the site. 3.Make sure that when you create the layout, keep in mind that we use quite a bit of content, but at the same time, know that we do not want too much content in the layout. 4.There must be a spot for a 468X60 near the top of the layout. 5.A Layout that can fill up most, if not all of a page. 98% preferably 6.When making a layout, remember that the winner will have to provide the Photoshop Document (.PSD), so save the file as a PSD also. I think this website is relevant: http://www.no-spec.com/ Particularly this point: 6. (This one is FOR the artists out there, please pay attention.) Some will ask you to “submit work for consideration”. They may even be posing as some sort of “contest”. These are almost always scams. They will take the work submitted by many artists seeking to win the “contest”, or be “chosen” for the gig, and find what they like most. They will then usually have someone who works for them, or someone who works incredibly cheap because they have no originality or talent of their own, reproduce that same work, or even just make slight modifications to it, and claim it as their own. You will NOT be paid, you will NOT win the contest. The only people who win, here, are the underhanded folks who run these ads. This is speculative, or “spec”, work. It’s risky at best, and a complete scam at worst. I urge you to avoid it, completely. For more information on this subject, please visit www.no-spec.com. |

I think part of the problem is that you are asking for professionals to submit work - for free - and telling them that IF (and thats a BIG "if") they win, they will get $200 plus whatever credit from your site (which they might not care about). If you were offering more, people might be more receptive, but in general the whole concept of a "contest" isn't usually very popular. |

Agreed... Contests need to be much more potentially lucrative to attract anything over and above students generally. For my part, its just nowhere near enough to justify the work that would have to be put in to make a layout I would be happy with. And I also agree that the credit from your site for advertising would be something that I don't think many designers would be that interested in - The return from banner advertising is very low generally, and keep in mind that people going to your site are trying to do things for themselves, not hire a designer to do it for them, so the return is likely to be even less. Just my thoughts. I hope you get some interest. If you find it hard, you might think about hooking up with some universities etc to get their design students involved. Some of them will probably be fairly good, and they will probably need the money! David |

Yes, it's that time again! Time to fill up our stolen design inventory. We're far too busy to actually go around stealing designs so please send them to our email instead, preferrably with html+css attached. Thank you. |
