If I find my imagination lacking I head over to www.cgtalk.com, www.cgarchitect.com or www.conceptart.org - or if I need inspiration in website design I'll browse through www.stylegala.com or www.cssbeauty.com

I'm not talking about plagarism, but looking at other peoples work tends to get my own ideas flowing. No one designs in a vacuum, everything is inspired by something else.

That make a great sense!

Someone told me if I want to improve my design skill, just see more, do more, think more. Is that the best way to improve?

sorry my English is not very good. :P

Yes, see more and spend more time thinking about what you really want to do. Make sure you are excited by what you are doing.
Get a sketch pad and brainstorm new ideas.

your English is better than most people in England :p

Yeah that's that best way to do it! Sees more, do more, think more. You need to keep up with trends. I get my inspiration from leaving the house... our life is full of advertisement, everywhere you go, everything you see...it's there! I also love buying design books, I love the look of them on my shelfs with their creative covers and I like to know what other Graphic Designers are doing.

"how to improve design skills?"

Become very observant. Learn why we see colour and how it affects us. Look at typefaces and fall in love with their curves and proportions. Carry a camera always and use it very often. Delete all shots which you aren't proud of. Visit museums of Fine Arts and learn to appreciate classic painting techniques. Watch films for the lighting and editing techniques, not the storyline.
That should keep you busy for a couple of years! The great thing is, all of that is really worth doing in any case.

don't just look at history, also spot for new emerging trendlines, go check out this project that merges graffiti design with architecture 3d. Awesome:
masterplan.ooo.nl/p2001e.html

Some other great resources for colour, layout, typo, etc. are:
designtaxi.com
linkdup.com
istockphoto.com/design_spotlight.php

good luck! Cheers. M.

Visit 5-10 different websites each day and try to analyze their structure and layout. Then try to design a better layout than the one you liked out of those 5-10 sites. This would really help in improving your imagination.

Learning tools won't make you a better designer. Learn something about design.

Forget Illustrator, forget Flash, forget Photoshop. Learn composition, color theory, typography and all that.
