advice on forms for a newbie?

Hi all,
I'm quite new to web design and currently getting to grips with dreamweaver 8. I have designed some basic sites and know how to use the standard features so far. What I want to do next is work with forms and eventually incorporate a members area into my site. Could somebody explain the next steps and what to learn please? I'd like to start learning to write some scripts and designing my own forms etc. I have read a bit about php, asp, cgi, mysql, etc etc but don't know which to combine and what to use etc.
Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Steven

members area you are going to need to use php and mysql.
Learn those two well, the possibilities are almost endless!
