800x600 vs. 1024x768... fight!

For a fixed width Website

Times have changed, so, do you design for 800 or for 1024?

Go.

If it cannot be made fluid, I am more concerned about making it look better on 1024 than 800.

Most of my fluid sites though, I still try to make them look good for 800x600 too.

1024 now.

although fluid is my preferred method of site design and will only fix it if the client is adamant.

As ever, it depends on the site, audience etc.

8x6 bitches! (usually...)

I like tall and narrow. Shorter line widths for easier reading.

I do virtually all my music stuff at 600px wide so it can be embedded within other club sites. Sucks to be me!

1024x768, anyone running 800x600 shouldn't be using the internet.

I suppose you can throw that liquid layout in there, JUST in case.

Right...those who can't see well don't deserve the privilege. How dare they!

1280x1024 ftw!

depends on the project, but IMHO; it's 2007, if you haven't made the move to 1024, you probably don't even know how to use the internet. ;}

Id say 1024px, but it all depends on content. If you have very little content, then I believe 800px fixed is better to look at.

haha.

thats why those of us that are building our sites for 1024 would use relative font sizing in our code (em ,%) instead of fixed units (px, cm, in)

Fair point...those bats should just increase their font size anyway.

Then you hit the catch 22. Most people who are using 8x6 are doing so because their eyes are bad due to age. And most of them won't know how to increase font sizes.
