I agree, Samuel. There's a point where it's not really practical to have a design be so wide, even if everyone in the world had monitors that would accomodate it. I would hope that we never really go any wider than 1024, even if we can. If people really think about it, a book or magazine is, give or take, the same general "perceptive" width as 800-1000 pixels. So that's kind of what we're used to dealing with when reading or browing through informational materials. It seems more natural than having such a huge area to take in visually. This site is a perfect example...it's set at about 1040 wide, yet nothing is really gained. The content is just spread out with a lot of empty space. IMHO -Jesse |

800x600. My attitude is, I don't really need 1024, I don't think I design much better in it, so I might as well go with 800x600 for the fogies and the PDA users. No doubt I'd reconsider if I really needed more than 750 pixels, though I think I actually do like 800 more aesthetically. |

800x600, because while people may have their screen set to 1024 or higher, they may not view things full screen. I always have multiple windows open at multiple sizes. A well designed site doesn't need to be full screen, it's the content that really matters, not the size of the design. |
