Illustrator or Photoshop?

For your web pages, do you design your graphics mostly in Photoshop (or another raster image program) or Illustrator (or another vector image program)?

I use Illustrator CS2 for about 90% of my graphic design. I really don't like using photoshop for more than cropping photos.

I use photoshop mainly as i have no need for my images to be vector based. If i was designing a logo, then i would make a vector image.

What is it with the crazy, nonsensical polls.

I just wanted to know how many, if any, other people out there try to do things in Illustrator instead of photoshop. Even if it would be easier in photoshop. I do it because I can easily change the size or shape of the drawings without compromising quality.

As designing for the web (XHTML/CSS - not flash) revolves entirely around raster graphics, and the precise positioning of pixels... I find theres little need for Illustrator unless you happen to be gash at using Photoshop.

as I've said before, using illustrator is MUCH better for translating to CSS conceptually, also it allows more flexibility, better font manipulation and so on.

I am a long time Photoshop layout user, recently making the switch. I would advise anyone to bite the bullet and do the same. Layouts in raster graphics is so last season!

Actually, since Photoshop is for image manipulation but Illustrator is a graphic layout programme I find there's little need to use photoshop unless your gash at Illustrator. Best to use both of course

Photoshop will show you what the text and so on will actually look like once saved for output - whereas if you zoom into your document 200% in illustrator, it just keeps anti-aliasing the layout because its vector - so dealing with the fine details like drop shadowing or whatever is guess work until you actually save as raster.

I love both

I prefer to use Illustrator all this while especially for vector images. While Photoshop, they gave great effect on photo/images.

With Illustrator, I could have do great illustration, once you know the basic of how the tool/feature works, you will easily discover more of it, and make your illustration real life!

Anyway, Photoshop also do good illustration like drawing manually~

Afterall, I use both in doing design!

Both usually, if a site design is looking to be very very structured and has little in the way of curves I'd probably use Photoshop for most things, really depends on the style, if its curvy and more funky, i'd design it in illustrator then convert it all into photoshop (or flash) when it gets closer to being finished.

You can just click View-> Pixel Preview or Click on save for web and just use the preview pane to see what it looks like rasterized in the format of your choice.

bollocks

illustrator can do all that shyt, easy. The new Photoshop has vectors all over the place, especially with font rendering, so the line is really getting blurred between the two programs.

I didn't know about pixel preview in illustrator, however the new photoshop does not use vector display when zooming, try it out and see.
