patterned web page backgrounds

i've been seeing lots of site lately such as
this (from a previous thread) and this that are using the patterned backgrounds. is there a site with free patterns that are available for tiling on webpages, or are these designers creating their own?

it's funny.. patterned wallpaper for homes are coming back into to style, i wonder if this has any correlation with this web trend?

i'd like to a tutorial on how to make these, as well.. it seems like it's an art in itself.

awesome thread

Basically, you just create a square that will eventually equal a quarter of your tile, start drawing, and then square it in size, rotating each one successively so they line up into a larger square 4 times the size of the original.

Beyond that, there's really nothing to it.

Great links. I'm getting more and more interested in having a pattern for a background of the portfolio I am making. Although I'll see if I find something I will like, otherwise maybe I'll just have to make my own
