Multiple fonts -

This site - http://www.stocktemple.com - has been criticized plenty for it's use of multiple fonts. I personally think it is great and separates the contents well - is there a silent rule that fonts should be consistent throughout the site?

The rule is there are no rules. There are people who write literature, people who write spy novels and people who write harlequin romances and many more. Know what you are and do it well. There is no single design theory and no single audience. And what turns people on today will be rejected tomorrow. Timelessness is a romantic notion. So come up with your own theory have some integrity and a day job to back you up.

Don't subscribe to the current design philosophies just because they are popular.

And often they are just popular.

I could be wrong but I think I'm seeing 4 different system fonts on the Stock Temple site.

I've read recommendations that (web) designs should be restricted to no more then 3 main typefaces though that site has a heap of dense content to deal with so maybe they think it's helping separate and define sections of information. I personally think its a little inconsistent mixing serifs and sans-serifs for body copy like that though.

to my eyes all those body fonts just make the site look untidy. The coloured backgrounds do a good enough job of defining the sections.
