please review domain site

I don't if this is the correct place for this but I am in the second year of a software engineering degree and next year will have to do a paid work placement for 12 months. I am looking at compnaies who offer placements for such students i would love to get a placement in the USA or AUS but as i am in the UK i realise that this may be quite difficult. Would love to know of any companies that may offer such a placement.
Any help would be much apprieciated.
Thanks.

got to agree with luke. absolutely terrible. takes an age to load, rammed with ads, completely amateur.
This market is wedged to the gills, you need to re-think this, cos at the moment it's not going to get you anywhere!

I haven't seen anything this bad since the old-school geocities.

Also, why on earth would you want to get a placement in AUS when the UK's software industry is so much larger... it blatently sounds like you just want a holiday in the sun.

The site is poor but made it while learning HTML.

As for geocities? what are they can you show me some examples as did not use or have the internet in the 1990's.

As for the placement the universtiy advisor helps with the uk placements but if you want to find a placement abroad you have to do it on your own. I have just started looking and am trying different ways to find a placement. The options that i am looking at with the usa and aus is because a placement abroad whould look good on a cv i think but i am not good with forign languages so i am looking for a placemnt in a english speaking country. The fact that i want a holiday is not true if i found a poor placement in the USA or AUS and a relevant placement with a fantastic company down the road i would choose the latter. At the moment it is all about keeping my options open seeing what is out there and applying for what ever i am interested in and qualified for.

Hope this clears a few things up.

Or to be fair, you don't have the skills to do the job of designing a site for yourself. Stick to back-end design and let someone else do the business model and frontend.

Thax for the feedback and taking time to look at the site.
I have mad emany updates to the sites. these include reducing width to allow it to fit on moniters with lower res i had 1920*1200 so i never had a problem, realignment of some adds, reduction in banners using banner rotation and a few other slight changes.

Why not take another look and see what you think.

It's good to see some new guys out there learning, that's good.

Anyways, as far as your site goes.... I have a few points of advice.

1) It's clear that the color scheme is purple/black/white. On that note, it is very chopped up. I would drop all the stars (they are not really revalent to the site content). Then I would add the google search and add it to your logo. Maybe move your logo up 20 px and to the left 40-60 px or so. Then add the search part, drop the length of the search field as well to maybe 30 characters or so. Not a lot. Then make the header the width of the rest of the content.

2) Drop the twist logo and the add beside it. You're forcing your content to go lower. You've estblished that we're at 360 Domains... Now we want to see what 360 has to offer.

3) A rule I follow religiously, and most designers do. The body of content should NEVER be aligned to the centre. Align Introduction and the content to the left. Also, there's no spacing. Even adding 10px of padding on either side will make a huge difference.

4) If you want all the adds, which I don't think are needed, consider a three column layout. The navigation goes on the left, then the content, then all your ads. This won't push the screen down like crazy. Remember people don't like to scroll. If this is a school project, and they don't require all the adds, I'd suggest dropping them. I know you can make like 15 cents per click, but really it's not worth it. People hate ads, and will leave your website. This will also speed it's loading time up.

5) For you're footer, you don't need the spacing between it and the content. All the purple lines aren't distracting. It doesn't flow.

That would be my advice for you, personally, assuming you don't plan on changing the layout and the table method.

However, if you're willing to put the work in, consider moving the layout to a CSS/DIV layout. It'll load quicker, and it'll be following the way sites are being done. You'll be with the competition, rather then behind. It's a lot of work, but potential employers for a GOOD firm, will look and consider this.

As far as work in general goes. The big big cities are where the jobs at. I work in Toronto and had a few job offers before taking my current gig. However, where I was trying to get work before, it was a smaller city and therefore smaller firms. You're goal should be to getting in with a bigger firm in the long run. However, I think a good way to grow and get better will be by starting with a smaller company. I worked with two small ones out of school, which got my feet wet.

That's my advice, hope it works for you.
