I think the summary of all the heated debating above is that both can offer different things, but often is a matter of choice. I've used both PC and MACs for design and video - and althought I agree with some of the relliablility issues raised above (with PC), if you know how to properly maintain both they will BOTH work well. But as far as web design is concerned, I would consider this when choosing - more programs available on PC, more people use PC than MAC generally and don't forget that you can get Windows WITH a MAC.... Anyway... food for thought...

Btw.. as another person pointed out.. lets keep to the original thread rather than going off on a APPLE v GATES debate! hehe? don't shoot me please...

i haven't used a mac with bootcamp yet. do you still have to reboot to run between windows and mac os or can you run both at the same time?? if so is it built in or does it require additonal software? it'd be nice to have mac os screen in on monitor and windows in another. i do this now with virtual pc but its so laggy

With Bootcamp you boot into one or the other - can't run both at same time.

Go to http://www.parallels.com, buy the desktop edition for 50 quid and you can run multiple systems (linux, windows etc) within OSX…

parallels runs in software mode and can be in a window or full screen (I have two screens so one is XP and t'other is Mac OSX). Parallels software is still developing but it seems to work very well.

Do not compare it to Virtual PC.

It's nothing like it - its faster and you can install normal PC software in it etc.

Check the forums at forums.parallels.com for info.

Blimey, I should be on commission for Parallels...

I'm a mac user, but only recently since the start of this year.

for programming I'd suggest going with windows (even if on an intel mac machine), because on the mac, you can't run the operating system with just the keyboard, which is highly frustrating - resorting to the mouse when on windows you just use the arrow keys (for dialogue boxes).

Mac should sort out all the shortcuts so one can use the mac without ever touching the mouse, but essentially thats not mac's philosophy, it's windows, and highly useful for someone who earns their crust by typing.

Hope that was of some help. Get an intel mac book (black one) and install bootcamp or parallels for ultimate "nice to use / look at and carry to the pub / cafe" factor.

I only use windows for HL2 and 3dsmax. Parallels doesn't support 3d hardware so boot-camp is the only way to go on the iMac. Also running Parallels is a memory hog. The only good thing about it is "slap book"!

I'd definitely install it on a macbook Black. With Sinclair spectrum keyboard stickers.
