Need Advice from the pros

I own a traditional graphics company and have hired a firm to design our website for us. It is going to be an e-commerce website and without paying huge re-accuring fees I would like to have a stand alone shopping cart pluged-in to it they have selected Cart weaver! I am not familar with it's functionalities but know that I really like the functions of the shopping cart that http://www.americanapparelstore.com/2102.html is using
can someone tell me what shopping cart the address above is using, they seem to think it's something yahoo stores are providing. Is it custom? Or is it some othere software? Any and all help on this one would be great I have spent numerous hours looking for it with no luck.

options are:

take a app and customise it:
oscommerce
cubecart
zencart
etc.

or go a managed route, like:
shopify
karova
etc.

Depends how good your web guys are at development, but you get more control over what you're doing with the 1st option. I've used cubecart in the past and found it the best of the lot (not that that's saying much, but unless you can a afford a bespoke solution, it's the best way to go).

Not to derail too much, but does anyone have a link to a good "getting started with ecommerce" article or something?

I haven't had to do any of that yet, but in all likelihood will have to someday, so I think it'd be a good idea to be somewhat prepared.
