Who is Jakob Nielson? What's the website?

I personally think that Nick Colomb is lol... jk

I do want to find out one thing though... how do you get local businesses to hire you as a web designer?

Jakob Nielsen:: http://www.useit.com Probably the worst looking and unusable sitein the world... Oh the irony!

My current Guru is [b:56bf80acc4]Jeffery Veen[/b:56bf80acc4] [The Art and Science of Web Design]. Same methodology as Nielson on usability, but still keeps it fun and more designer orientated.

And also horrendously out of date:

[quote:3e905fdeb6]
Download times rule the Web, and since most users have access speeds on the order of [b:3e905fdeb6]28.8 kbps[/b:3e905fdeb6], Web pages can be no more than 3 KB if they are to download in one second which is the required response time for hypertext navigation. Users do not keep their attention on the page if downloading exceeds 10 seconds, corresponding to 30 KB at modem speed. Keeping below these size limits rules out most graphics. [/quote:3e905fdeb6]

What's he smoking?

Anyway, I'm definately a zeldman fan.

Users also tend to pay little attention to pages consisting of nothing but reams of text, but I guess that doesn't matter either

I imagine he drives a Volvo.
It's only fitting seeing as they both sound like a c**t.

I recall Nielsen once tried to sabotage the K10K site as a form of protest against "ungood userbilityness and accessibilitation".
Of course, Nielsen being Nielsen, with his customary lack of imagination, this never amounted to anything more than him spraying 'Jakob's rules rule ok' in red paint across his own monitor.

Poor Jakob.

Cool...

Well, I don't know who the powerplayers really are though... I don't know too many freelancers, or loan designers... I've been thinking about that kind of stuff lately...

Oh well...
