Because it's free. They get free advertising on a level that would normally cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Then they can spend those millions on more advertising.

Though I'm sure a MySpace ad isn't cheap...

Surely myspace with its massive user base is a great place to advertise your business - while the thad lasts.

Hi everyone,

This type of conversation about MySpace has been going around a few sites and publications...

MySpace has been given good reviews - the fact that it's free to set up and has allowed people to expose their creativity at a higher level. For example, bands with great music have been unearthed.
On the other hand, You have the copyright issues which is a major thing imo. My mate is an illustrator and he sent me this link:

http://www.theaoi.com/Mambo/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=623&Itemid=2

Reading into the terms of MySpace, within all of the T&Cs, it seems
that they can take your content, make a stock library from it and make
money which you will never recieve any royalties from it. I've been told that even if
you delete your work and account MySpace retains the right to anything of yours it finds in its back-ups. So when that band said to weldo they'll go to mySpace did you find out what they were getting themselves into?

This was last week when I read all of this so their terms may have been tweaked since then...

I haven't signed up with MySpace but at this moment I haven't the need to as I have my own website to show work from. I'm just concerned that lots of people are being pinned down contractually without fully understanding the implications. Nothing is really free afterall...
