this is a pretty decent list, although i don't agree with: 'Using grey text on grey background' sometimes its good to include subtle text without ditracting from the actual design, e.g. xhtml & css validation links at the bottom... or am i just satan?

The 'gray text on gray background' sin would be for those who do that for all of their content. Extremely low contrast is the rub. I don't think the low contrast for something like your 'css' or "508" links would be an issue

I've run across far too many sites where the color of the text is just a bare shade or two lighter than the background color... it's a pain to try to read it and I will usually click off somewhere elese.
