pen & ink on squared notebook and a lot of tea/waste paper

Then into Illustrator or freehand to work up the 1st draft...

First, wireframes, information architecture, and all that.
Second, generally pencil/graph paper sketches.
Third, play around in Photoshop (for web, of course).
Fourth, start coding out some example static pages (2 or 3).
Fifth, build site as plain-Jane XHTML (static or dynamic, depending on project).
Sixth, polish out the CSS and apply it to the site, checking in Firefox (and making sure it works in Opera and Safari).
Seventh, test in IE5.5 and 6 and write hacks as necessary.
Finally, one final run through by myself (and client, if applicable), and get someone uninvolved in the project to browse it (just to make sure usability changes aren't needed) in browsers before launch.

I don't always follow this process to the letter, but that's basically it.

My Simple Basics...

I have been a web designer for about 5months, I hate art and I love a challenge so I just explore the website, what do I Need?
Wander into fireworks and export to dreamweaver until their is a nice job...

Then to the template, then to Microsoft Word to compile the detail, spell check and voila.

I am a bad writer and hate writing to a notebook and typing into my computer. I think its messy

I will have to have a look at photoshop and illustrator

For websites I tend to go straight for photoshop, play around with block shapes and colour to get a balance, and then mock up the first page of the site entirely in PS and show it to the client as an image. I don't even start to code it up until they have agreed on the majority of the look.

Like PGO basicly, and like Dusteh I tend to go straight to photoshop sometimes rather than pen and paper for web projects. I always have a finished mockup before I start coding, but then I also tend to change it a couple of times during the production.

Applications used are Photoshop for graphics and Smultron for code basicly. Im not a Flash person, dont use Dreamweaver, Fireworks or any of these kind of programs.

1) Get inspiratration by looking at web and application interfaces.
2) In photoshop make a simple shape, lines, rouded rectangle.
2.5) Think of the colour theme to colour in.
3) Decide whether the template is fixed width, centred or whatever.
4) Plan out the navigation and where the submenu and boxes will be and draw them and colour using the same colour theme.
4) Mess with the fill and opacity.
5) It'll all come to me.

Once done with site structure and information design, requirements, customer wishes and target group(s), I use paper and then Fireworks (PS is not my thing when designing for web, though I do not slice and export automatically - I just find PS slow for the purpose). When done with layout and all graphic bits and pieces, I use a text editor. For Flash things run somewhat different.

Depends on the project but usually start with pen and paper then into InDesign.
