Just a few questions about the web design industry for my university project :)

I'd like to hear peoples opinions as i am conducting a survey/questionaire for my university Digital Media course...

Q. What is the current status of the web design industry..?

Q. How do you feel the web design sector will change in the next 5-10 years..?

Q. What technology will be employed to web design in the next 5-10 years..?

...thanks :] (answer at least one if you can't be bothered with the 3)

First, don't mispell "university" when you're attending one.

Not sure what this means? Well, it exists, it's improving as more people are picking up on using web standards, understanding the separation of content, presentation, and behavior, and caring about their craft.

Basically, it continues on the current trend. More use of things like Ajax (for better or worse) and more use of CSS for design. Also, designers will have to consider a greater variety of mobile (and other alternatives to PCs) devices.

The same technologies, basically. XML-based markup languages, CSS, DOM/JavaScript. The way they're used or the versions of those languages may change. We'll see more applications of XML.

...who fucking cares who made it - It's so bad I'm blocking you till you change it.

Q1. a: It's quite buoyant - however the trend that's outsourcing to places with much lower fee demands like India - are a worry to some UK designers - especially if your target market is start-ups.

Conversely it seems medium/large businesses are constantly re-evaluating their internet presence - So demand for decent web designers is good and currently outweighs other design professionals if the vacancies on job sites are any indication.

Q2. a: It all seems to have grown up since the free-for-all a few years ago. Sites will continue to thrive if they contain decent content - the content is changing - more video, music, film... WIFI on a national scale and ever improving connectivity will ensure that things like the download sales of the current No1 single become commonplace - internet purchasing will continuing to rise.

Community sites will continue to grow generating huge audiences. Blogging will become a profession. And naked ladies will never be dethroned as the main reason why men turn on their PC's

Flash sites will finally find a decent way to get spidered by the SE's and will become the main resource for site/interactive/interface design. There will be a Microsoft version of flash released and Google will buy adobedia as a result. no one will talk about accessibility as all handhelds and blind people will be upgraded.

Q3 a: TV/video/internet/tele/gaming/radio/ 'consoles' for every living room within a decade - Goolglerooms will be leading the pack with Sony Playlounge and MicrocouchPototo following swiftly behind them.

+ You'll be able to download the internet.

The status of the web design industry is beginning to separate. You are beginning to have individuals that have the experience and skill, and then you have individuals finding the simplicity of making a cheesy site and thinking they can profit off of crap. Companies will have to seek more than just web design in order to stand out from the rest.

Over the next 5-10 years, there will be an increase in design firms attempting to get a piece of the pie. There will be dominating companies that will hold a chunk of the market because they utilize their network and then there will small firms here and there snagging local markets. It's all about being distinct, the peopel who realize that point will survive over the years.

Currently there is a movement to change specific languages like php, ruby, etc. Forums will implement AJAX similiar to Lussumo's Vanilla. Microsoft will release the Expression Suite which will change the flexibility of design. Also, network systems like servers, ISPs and PC/Mac systems will have a large push toward interactive media. Most of these things are beginning and there is a push. Its just a matter of who picks up on what. The designers that can catch these trends early can ride the wave of success until they become obsolete.

Web design is all about catching the latest fad. CNN, BBC and Travel Channel are 3 cable networks that I have noticed that have been actually using some web design trends via the television network. I have this feeling that over the next few years, there will be a large integration between video production and web production... hell soon enough TV airwaves will be banned by the FCC and all that can be around is digital systems...
