ms updates IE so that we cant embed activex

http://www.downloadsquad.com/2006/03...changes-today/

we had the first case of this being a problem today - a client rang up saying they had to click a popup to allow activex (in this case flash) to be run on the page...

has anyone else have this problem crop up yet? what a stupid patent

after a bit more digging, it turns out that all activex that requires user interaction is turned off be default (so they have to ok the popup to turn it on)

the simple answer (if any of your clients have this problem) is to simply uninstall the optional update to IE that changed the way ActiveX works:

"Go to your Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Select “Show Updates”. Then look for update 912945. Remove it. Despite the warning, it’s just going to fix your browser. No more annoyance."

I believe if you use Javascript to write your EMBED, OBJECT, etc.. tags it will eliminate this problem.

Yeah, use one of the JavaScript methods (search the forum) to embed the Flash and you'll be fine.
