You could do the design in Illustrator, but I would imagine Photoshop is easier.

But then I suck with Illustrator.

Depends on what sort of design you are doing-illustrator and photoshop can both be used but depending which one you go with it will influence the look of your site, decide what you want stylistically then choose the right tool for the job

I don't think it's comfortable designing websites in Illustrator. The simple reason being, Illustrator is a vector program. The web is a pixel based medium and software such as Photoshop, Imageready and Fireworks are best to design websites. I do use Illustrator a lot to do my buttons, icons and illustrations as it's very easy to draw in there. Also, the icons are much sharper when brought into Photoshop. The most comforting part about working on Photoshop and Illustrator side by side is that you can copy/paste anything to either of the programs without importing and all that rigmarole!

off the top of my head only this one:

Basically laid out in Illustrator and (with a flash add on) converted to flash layers etc... I think?

Yes I can imagine if you are producing flash work then illustrator would be ideal as they are both vector, however generating standard raster jpeg/gifs, i prefer the pixel perfect precision of photoshop.

Just don't get lazy and use the HTML image tables generated by Photoshop slicing. Its wank.

You can use pixel measurements in Illustrator just as eaily, it depends on the style you need to achieve, the pixel argument is fairly redundant since both Photoshop and Illustrator export to web. Use Both

All my rulers in illustrator are set to mm, and I'll be damned if I'm changing it! :P
