I wish there was a newb forum...

...Okay, I just came here to ask on the very basics of web design, such as template creation in Photoshop, slicing/coding in Dreamweaver, then adding in some Flash. If someone could help me with that, I'd be very grateful.

If you need more details on WHAT exactly I need help with, it's literally everything. I read up on tutorials, but there's something I missing, and I need to find that.

Basics of web design? I dunno.. can you actually design? If you're talking about the basics of making web sites, then I'd forget about photoshop, dreamweaver, flash etc. Learn HTML (or XHTML) first until you know it properly - www.w3schools.com.

If you have ever used industry standard programs in design, such as Quark, Freeway from Softpress is a good (basic) place to start and learn how HTML is generated by the software. Most of the true coders here would most likely disagree but it was a major help in the transition from graphic to web design for me in the beginning.

Forget about Photoshop slicing into Dreamweaver. Start off right.

Learn to hand-code (X)HTML. Then start learning CSS to control the appearance of your pages. You'll be kickin' in no time!

Although I would normally disapprove of ImageReady generated layouts, since you're at the beginning, I think it's ok to play with them for a while, just as long as you keep in mind, the output code is bad. Basically use the slice tool to draw a grid in photoshop and hit save as webpage... The rest is basically self-explanatory. Open the generated file with dreamweaver and play with its source.
Here are a couple of more detailed tutorials:

Remember, THIS PRACTICE IS BAD, even if for the common visitor there is basically no noticeable difference.

And here's how it should be done

For more resources search these forums, and post questions you may have.

Good luck.

Go to Lynda.com and just pay the $25/per month fee. It's WELL worth it!! Don't have to read books, and you've got somebody to show you how to do everything.

I have a book by her - H.O.T Macromedia Flash MX. Not that good. And her site is poorly coded.

Why pay $25/MONTH for something you can just as easily get for free?

Code everything by hand. Get it working in Firefox. Then hold your breath and open it in IE. Then use CSS hacks to fix it for IE.
