Firefox: command-click when typing into fields doesn't open a new tab like Safari

Hi All.

In Safari, if I were to input some text say into the google search field and then hit command-return, it'd open the search results in a new tab. Is there a way/addon/anything to make Firefox behave in the same way? I can't find anything on the matter.
Thanks.

hi. that works if I am typing in the address bar or search field, but not for fields within webpages.

not with firefox 2.0.0.7. if I open google, write something and hit option(alt) + return, nothing happens. don't even go to the search results in the same tab.
